Student support at Cambridge
Removing barriers that stand in the way
This means reaching, supporting and funding the students with the greatest potential we can find, from all parts of the UK and the world.
Undergraduate or postgraduate, if they have the talent and tenacity, then nothing else matters — they will be welcome here, valued here, and will thrive here.
Thanks to the generosity of its donors, the collegiate University has been able to raise £500 million to support hundreds of new studentships, improved access to bursary support, and establish several new programmes, including the landmark Foundation Year.
In addition, a new £48 million programme to offer fully-funded PhDs at Cambridge over the next 10 years has been created by the University and Trinity to ensure continued excellence in PhD research, the lifeblood of new discoveries and economic growth.
Supporting the most academically talented students
We continue to do all we can to support the most academically talented students to access Cambridge. Today's students are tomorrow's leaders, especially in academia and industry. We want students to have the fullest possible experience at Cambridge, and to remove any barriers that stand in their way.
From the moment someone begins to consider whether Cambridge is for them, we want them to be fully informed of what it takes to get here and to know that nothing should stop them from applying. With a focus on reflecting the local and global society in which Cambridge is embedded, we are working to remove barriers to admission and participation, be they of perception or finance.
Making the most of all Cambridge has to offer
As students take up their place at Cambridge, we want them to be able to make the most of all Cambridge has to offer. This means continuing to offer the world-class education for which Cambridge is renowned, stretching students to develop their academic talent.
We will also continue to build our capacity to ensure students have an enriched university experience: providing opportunities beyond the lab and the library, alongside sustained wellbeing and mental health support. This is the best preparation students can have for their next steps beyond their degree.
Ultimately, our ambition is to give students an unparalleled academic experience in which they can thrive.
Next steps
Any gift towards student support, whether to a College or to the University, will ensure Cambridge is a welcoming environment for all to study in, and a place where all can thrive.
