About the programme
The Cambridge Fundraising and Alumni Relations Internship Programme is a 10-week immersive experience that has been designed to prepare you for a career in higher education fundraising and alumni relations.
Over the course of the summer, you will learn about the fundraising and alumni relations profession, work on a project providing you with hands-on professional experience, and network with leaders from across the collegiate community.
The internship was an exciting journey of self-discovery and learning for me…The exposure to experts in development, mentorship and meaningful projects made it both enriching and inspiring.

Learning
- You will engage in weekly sessions taught by leading higher education fundraising and alumni relations professionals, offering valuable insights and real-world knowledge.
- You will explore the rich history of philanthropy, discover the intricacies of the fundraising process and discuss the ethical considerations of fundraising as well as explore the critical role of our alumni community and volunteers.
- You will have an opportunity to engage in additional personal development opportunities such as group coaching, CV advice and mock interviews.
- See more information on the curriculum here.

Projects
- Gain hands-on experience through a real-world project, bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application.
- Present your work at the end-of-programme Project Showcase, attended by senior leaders and colleagues from Collegiate Cambridge.
- Previous projects have explored women's philanthropic giving at Pembroke College, the student-to-alumni transition at the University and the potential for a ‘grateful patient’ programme at Cambridge University Hospital.
Being embedded in a team and given a project which looked to solve real problems and make a real impact made the internship a really valuable experience.
Professional development
- You will hone your ability to thrive in team environments, mastering team dynamics, project management, and working toward common goals.
- Collaborating with a diverse group of peers working across different areas of advancement, you will broaden your perspective and discover your strengths and preferences in the workplace.
- You will gain confidence in your abilities and build your CV with real examples, showcasing both your technical and soft skills and provide you with an opportunity to reflect on your strengths and develop your personal brand.

I feel like I started the internship with no professional experience, and since finishing I can confidently say I feel well equipped to face the professional working world, and am able to advocate for the employable skills I gained during the 10-week programme.
