Transform provision for popular, contemporary and world music
Cambridge attracts talented students from all over the world with a huge range of backgrounds and cultural interests — yet until now music provision within the Collegiate University has been strongly focussed on the Western classical tradition.
To unlock the profound benefits of music-making for the widest possible range of students there is a pressing need to transform provision for popular and world music.
Your support could enable the CMP to:
- Enhance the University’s collection of equipment and infrastructure for popular and world music, building on initial investments
- Expand a popular series of free classes led by industry professionals in music production, songwriting, DJing and sound mixing
- Enrich the professional mentoring, coaching and support offered for the most talented popular musicians through a newly-launched Advanced Popular Performance Scheme
- Offer the University’s flagship popular and world music ensembles, including the University Jazz Orchestra, Gamelan, Samulnori and Indian classical music groups, opportunities to perform with professionals at the highest levels of excellence, mirroring opportunities offered for equivalent classical groups
- Support a programme of popular and world music masterclasses
Longer-term aspirations include:
- Investment in dedicated facilities including band rooms and recording studios
- The development over time of a team of popular musicians affiliated with the Collegiate University
