Offer programmes for beginners and less experienced musicians
Over recent decades there has been a sharp and much-publicised decline in the level of music education in schools, which has left many students feeling that they do not have the experience necessary to get involved with music-making at Cambridge.
Your support could help the CMP to sustain and develop a programme of activities designed to enable students with limited prior music experience to navigate a way into the musical ecosystem and to experience the joy that music-making brings.
Our priorities include:
- Expanding a heavily oversubscribed pilot programme of lessons for those who have not previously had the opportunity to learn a musical instrument
- Offering professionally-led group music-making in accessible musical genres such as Samba and singing
- Supporting introductory popular music classes
- Launching a year-long ‘crash course’ in classical choral singing for first-year students who lack choral training but aspire to join a College choir in their second year
