The Stephen Hawking Programme celebrates and memorialises the life and achievements of the late Professor Stephen Hawking, one of the greatest scientific minds of his generation and a celebrated global leader in the fields of cosmology, astronomy, theoretical physics and mathematics.
The University of Cambridge and its Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) were privileged to host Professor Hawking and his research for many years. To ensure his research focus continues in the future, The Stephen Hawking Programme will offer talented young researchers and students financial support that allows them the independence and intellectual freedom to concentrate on their ambitious, pioneering research. In this way, the Programme will complement the work of the Stephen Hawking Centre for Theoretical Cosmology.
The Programme's academics and scholars, in a special collaboration with The Stephen Hawking Foundation, will initiate extensive outreach activity, reflecting Professor Hawking’s interest in the public communication of science. This will take place in schools and other settings. In addition, an annual Hawking Symposium will be held, showcasing the best of Cambridge’s cosmology, astronomy, theoretical physics and mathematics through a series of lectures and engagement activities, including those aimed at non-specialist and young audiences.

About the Stephen Hawking Centre for Theoretical Cosmology
There are two circumstances in which the hidden basic fabric of the Universe is violently shaken and unveiled: in the enormous temperatures and densities of the Hot Big Bang and during the extreme collapse to form a black hole. The Centre focuses on mathematical theories of these pivotal physical events, confronting them with observational data to gain new insight into the fundamental structure of the Universe and its origin.
