Founded in 1860, CURA is one of the oldest and most successful Varsity sports clubs.

The Cambridge University Rifle Association is the University fullbore club. CURA has a rich history of success, holding the record for the most consecutive Varsity victories against Oxford (24 years). Many of our current and former members compete at national or international events, with three members winning the prestigious Sovereign’s Prize while being a student!

CURA develops the target shooters of the future — your support ensures our success

Fullbore shooting is an inclusive sport in which men and women of all ages compete on an equal basis, and CURA is committed to making the sport as accessible as possible by providing equipment and facilities. However, participation is increasingly expensive for our members, who must cover match entries and ammunition costs. While we receive financial support from the Sports Service, this barely covers our affiliation cost, insurance, and Varsity entries. We therefore rely on generous support from our alumni and friends to maintain and upgrade our equipment, enabling our members to pick up and excel at this wonderful sport. Any contribution is greatly appreciated and directly benefits our student members, ensuring that success is within reach for everyone.

Here are some ‘target’ examples of what your donation could support:

  • Hit: £25 would contribute to equipment such as foresight elements and eagle eyes, helping us keep our target in perfect sight.
  • Outer: £50 would cover an emergency trip to the gunsmith's when a firing pin decides to break halfway through a competition.
  • Magpie: £100 would subsidise the ammunition for a weekend meeting, allowing a member to participate in a match that they may otherwise have missed out on.
  • Inner: £250 would cover a team match entry, preparing the squad to beat Oxford at our Varsity matches.
  • Bull: £500 would help to purchase a new jacket, sling, and glove, making the sport more accessible by providing quality equipment to all our members.
  • V-Bull: £1000 would allow CURA to replace a barrel when it inevitably wears out, so our shooters can keep scoring high.

This year, CURA is aiming to get our large match rifle backgun, the Megatron, into usable condition again by purchasing a scope. Additionally, we want to raise money to replace the barrels of two match rifles which are nearing the end of their usable life span (ca. £1000 each).
