Land Use Impact Accelerator

Land Use Impact Accelerator

The University of Cambridge is launching the Land Use Impact Accelerator, a global and national land use management project, at the Whittle Laboratory.

The objective: build a global systems understanding of land use.

Across lives and livelihoods, biodiversity, agriculture, energy, buildings and infrastructure, carbon storage, and finite natural resources, this initiative combines research insight, modelling and convening to facilitate more evidence-informed and integrated decision-making between the different aspects of land use.

Debates and discussions around land use are fast developing, but we believe there is a lack of understanding around the integrated nature of the system of land use and how trade-offs at the global level will shape the context in different locations. To address the land use challenge, we must move beyond siloed approaches and integrate academic and practical expertise to create a robust, interconnected global model that accounts for the complex interdependencies of land use decisions.

Building on the success and unique capabilities of the Aviation Impact Accelerator at the Whittle Laboratory, the Land Use Impact Accelerator will bring together an international group of experts dedicated to developing evidence-based tools designed to promote shared understanding, drive integrated action, and elevate ambition in global and national land use management.

This work will also enable the expansion of the Impact Accelerator approach to diverse challenges, allowing the methodology to be scaled and applied to a wider range of sectors.
