The Institute of Criminology, founded by Sir Leon Radzinowicz in 1959, has exerted a strong influence on the development of the discipline.of interpersonal violence.

Research interests include prisons, adolescent and young adult development, penal theory and ethics, and understanding of the causes, the consequences, and the prevention.
