Founded in 1896 alongside the birth of the new Olympic era, the Cambridge University Fencing Club has developed fencing excellence right from the start of the sport’s modern timeline and continues to excel today in 2020.

CUFC is a thriving community, welcoming beginners into the club every year on top of seasoned fencers competing up to international level. With an extensive and illustrious history, CUFC is one of Cambridge’s most successful clubs and is dedicated to maximising the potential of all our fencers whilst supporting them on and off the piste.

This year, our Men’s Blues Squad brought home the 113th Varsity Fencing Trophy, capping off a great season for both the Women’s Firsts and Men’s First and Second Teams. Our teams compete in BUCS leagues throughout the year and train ardently to ensure we deliver strong performances at all fixtures. Outside of training, CUFC is a highly sociable club and with a host of memorable events, CUFC provides a core part of our members’ Cambridge experiences.

Due to a lack of funds, CUFC has lamentably lost all financial support from the University this year and so will have to rely solely on the generosity of friends and alumni. Our members currently pay an annual fee of £135, which partially covers coaching, shared equipment, and venue hire, but does not include travel expenses, personal kit costs and 1-to-1 lessons.

With your support, CUFC can secure quality coaching for our athletes, keep membership costs down to ensure accessibility, as well as provide working equipment and reliable venues for us to train effectively. Donations will also help our fencers cover the cost of travelling to and competing in the BUCS individual competition, which is the best opportunity for them to showcase their skills and perform as an individual for their university. It is hugely important to all in our community that CUFC continues to blossom as a club and facilitates fencers achieving their full potential in the sport.
